Thanksgiving isn’t just a holiday. It’s not just a day to set aside and be thankful. It’s not even a whole month to make daily posts about what you’re thankful for. Thanksgiving is something that should be apart of our lives daily all year long.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
When we choose to be thankful instead of worried or upset, we allow the peace of God to guard our hearts and minds. That’s so powerful! When we shift our focus from the problems or concerns or lack to the goodness in our lives, nothing really seems so bad anymore. We are saying, “not today, Satan!” And he (Satan) has no more power. We stripe the enemy from any power or foothold into our life.
“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast in the Lord; The humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.” Psalm 34:1-3
Magnify God and His Word and your situation will change as your perspective changes. When you are focused on God and Who He is, you’re opening the door for Him to work. Philippians 4:8-9 say it perfectly, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”
Focus on the good, focus on the things of God, and make it a daily routine. I know for me personally, I see the greatest victories happen when I decide to just give God glory and be thankful. There have been situations where I had to just go to God and ask Him to show me something to be thankful for, or to give me a verse and then I’d thank God for that promise. “Even if I don’t see it in the natural, God, thank You for this promise!” It may be a hard, slow start, but I promise it gets easier the more you do it.
