Something that I’ve really purposed in my heart to do everyday for my daughter is to speak life over her. I try to watch my words very carefully when I talk with her and about her. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. That’s something we should not take lightly. I don’t think it is always anyone’s intention to speak death over their children, but it can happen without us even realizing it. Have you ever heard someone say, “Oh, poor baby” when talking about a fussy baby? I hear it all the time. I’m guilty of saying it. It’s just a saying, right? Yes, but you are also speaking poorly (no pun intended) over that baby. This is an extreme example, but nevertheless, it’s an example of how we can let our guard down on our mouths.
I want to speak good things over my daughter. I want her to constantly be hearing blessings spoken over her. I want hearing the Word of God spoken over her everyday to be as normal as anything else in life. I want it to just be apart of our daily life.
At nap times, I pray over her and tell her that she is blessed and highly favored. When she starts to throw a fit, instead of telling her she’s acting like a brat, I tell her that she is a sweet girl and sweet girls don’t behave that way. I point her back to the goodness in her. I speak life, not death.
It’s so important that we build our children up and encourage them. They will have plenty of discouraging voices and lies filling their heads. We need to plant the seeds of truth in their hearts so when those lies from the enemy come, they know who they are and who God is!
Here are some of my favorite things to speak over our daughter.
Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you…”
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Psalm 115:13-15 “He will bless those who fear the Lord, both small and great. May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”
Psalm 92:13 “Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.”
Isaiah 54:13-14 “All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children. In righteousness you shall be established; You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; And from terror, for it shall not come near you.“
