What’s In A Name?

I wanted to share the reasoning behind the name of the blog and what it means to me. Fearless Joy does not exactly scream “mom blog,” so allow me to explain how it came to be. My husband actually came up with the name! I had been throwing around ideas with the word “fearless,” but nothing was quite clicking. So naturally I asked my wordsmith of a husband for some help. He knows how happy being Olivia’s mommy makes me and that God’s design for motherhood is to be joyful (Psalm 113:9). So he just threw out “Fearless Joy” and it seemed perfect. Plus, our daughter’s middle name is Joy, so it was kind of a tip of the hat to her.
When I finally settled on the name, I was telling my sister, Natalie, about it. I told her how God had been showing me to always turn to His Word and to expect an answer; How there did not need to be any fear involved in motherhood, or even in life, because I know His character. Then she actually mentioned it fit perfectly with Philippians 4:6-7, too.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

This absolutely resonated with me and then it was settled – Fearless Joy was the perfect name for this blog. This scripture defines perfectly what God has put in my heart for what kind of mother I want to be for my children. I will not be anxious or fearful about anything. I will always go to God with my requests and concerns rejoicing because I know He hears me and will answer me. I can rest in His peace that guards me.

My hope in sharing my journey is to share the things God shows me along the way. We need more God fearing mothers in this world who will not be moved by what we see in the natural. In a world full of questions, I want my daughter to see me fearlessly go to God for answers. I know He will continue to give me those answers and I believe it will show my daughter and future children how to live vicariously walking by faith.
